In a world where wellness trends come and go, there’s one practice that’s capturing attention for all the right reasons. It’s not just another fleeting fad endorsed by celebrities; it’s a powerful tool that can genuinely transform our health and longevity. As someone who values a balanced and vibrant life, I’ve been incorporating this into my routine, and the benefits are undeniable. We all aspire to be healthy, fit, and full of vitality, right? Well, let me share with you some exciting discoveries that could make a lasting difference in your wellness journey.

I started offering these treatments mainly for their aesthetic benefits. You know, those body-shaping tools and all that jazz. BUT that’s not (MLD) Manual Lymphatic Drainage. MLD is something so different to any procedure I have ever trained in, It's pretty cool! I just finished a specialised course on it!

Lots of places falsely market their treatments as “Lymphatic Drainage.” If the touch isn’t as light as checking tacky nail polish, with that light stroke, it’s not real "MLD". Gua Sha facials are also not Lymphatic Drainage treatments, they can work alongside an "MLD" but the pressure is often too strong causing erythema (redness) which you shouldn't get with draining lymph. While I can contour and shape your body, I always end with true "MLD" to help your lymphatic system work its magic!

Here’s the kicker—I’ve been digging deeper into the science behind it, and it’s just fascinating. The lymphatic system is an incredible, often overlooked part of our body. Many people, including myself until recently, tend to forget how crucial it is.

So, let’s break it down. The lymphatic system is a key player in our immune system. Picture it as a network of small, thin tubes and lymph nodes spread throughout your body. These lymph nodes, which are about the size of a pea, filter lymph fluid. This fluid carries and stores immune cells, helps fight infection, and removes waste. Super important stuff, right?

Okay, I promise not to turn this into a biology lecture, but isn’t it intriguing? And here’s the best part—I love giving Lymphatic Treatments. It’s not just about the aesthetics; it’s about enhancing overall well-being, too.

So, next time you think about body sculpting, remember there’s more to it than meets the eye. The lymphatic system is your body’s unsung hero and a little TLC through Manual Lymphatic Drainage can go a long way!

Did You Know?

  • We have about 500-600 Lymph Nodes in the body

  • Half of our Lymph Nodes are in our stomach region

  • Lymphatic fluid will leave the body as urine ( very important to go to the toilet regularly in the day, if you are not your not drinking enough water)

  • Lymphatic Drainage is not body sculpting

  • Crossing your legs while sitting can disrupt the lymph flow

  • 1 in 5 people who have Lymph Nodes removed will get Lymphodeama

  • We are supposed to drink water or sip hot herbal tea every 15 minutes to keep the lymph system hydrated

  • If the Lymph Nodes are swollen around our neck it means our body is fighting an infection

The Fastest Way To Cleanse Our Lymphatic System:

Move Around:

If you’re sitting at a desk or lying down with your phone right now, stand up! Do a silly jig, jive around, and flap your arms up and down. Visualise the lymph nodes under your armpits breathing and pumping clean blood back to your heart. Doesn’t that feel refreshing?

Stay Hydrated:

Drinking more water is another easy yet essential habit. I know it can be challenging, but I’m pushing myself to drink 2-3 litres a day based on my body weight and activity level. The average adult female needs at least 2 litres a day. Remember, herbal teas, soups, and milk count towards hydration too (but avoid sodas and caffeine and alcohol if you can).

Hot and Cold Showers:

Alternating between hot and cold showers can stimulate the lymphatic system. The sudden temperature changes ignite the lymphatic pump, energising and invigorating your whole body.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD):

This is a type of gentle massage that encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body. Find a trained professional.

Far Infrared Saunas:

In a far infrared sauna, heat energy penetrates your body, raising your core temperature. This increase in heat boosts your heart rate, encourages deeper breathing, and makes you sweat, all of which promote lymphatic drainage.

Deep Breathing and Self-Massage:

Deep breathing and self-lymphatic massage can also enhance lymphatic flow. Taking a few moments each day for deep, mindful breathing can make a big difference.

Dry Brushing:

This involves using a dry brush to gently brush your skin in the direction of your heart. It’s an excellent way to stimulate lymph flow and exfoliate your skin.

Wear Loose-Fitting Clothing:

Tight clothing can restrict lymphatic flow. Opt for looser garments to allow your lymphatic system to function optimally.

The Big 6: Your Key Lymph Nodes for MLD Treatment

Let’s talk about “The Big 6” – the six main lymph nodes in your body that are crucial for Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) treatment. Whether you’re dealing with swelling, feeling under the weather, or just want to boost your body’s detox process, focusing on these nodes can make a big difference.

Even if you’re not a professional, you can work on these lymph nodes yourself. When I get more confident, I’ll start sharing videos to guide you through the process and show you how I practice it myself. I’m excited to bring you along on this journey, and who knows, maybe one day you’ll be ready to see it live!

Try to incorporate these techniques into your morning and night routines. It’s all about using slow, gentle strokes and taps on the main lymph nodes in your body:

1. Cervical Nodes - Start at the collarbone.

2. Jaw Nodes - Move behind the jawbone.

3. Axillary Nodes - Focus on the armpits.

4. Abdominal Nodes - Work on the lower abdomen.

5. Inguinal Nodes - Target the groin area.

6. Popliteal Nodes - Finish behind the knees.

End with a body shake to stimulate the entire lymphatic system.

There are plenty of videos online to guide you through these steps. Remember, it’s all about gentle, mindful movements.

Final Thoughts

Incorporating these simple practices into your daily routine can significantly benefit your lymphatic system and overall health. So, keep moving, stay hydrated, and don’t be afraid to try out these lymph-boosting techniques. Your body will thank you!
